Aphasia Support Group

This group is designed to reach those people with aphasia who no longer have insurance for speech therapy (or never had it) and cannot afford private therapy. It is currently available only in the Omaha area and is a result of a collaboration between the Nebraska State Stroke Association and a group of speech therapists in Omaha. If you would like more information on this group, or information on how to start a similar group in your area, contact the Nebraska State Stroke Association.

Come Back Club

The Come Back Club is a support group for stroke survivors, family members, and other concerned persons. Meetings include educational and social events that are designed to help members learn ways to maximize the quality of life after stroke.  If you’re interested in starting a Come Back Club in your area, or would like more information on the Lincoln club, contact the Nebraska State Stroke Association.

Peer Visitation Program

Offered in both Lincoln and Omaha, the Peer Visitation Program is designed to give hope and encouragements to new stroke survivors and their families. Trained, dedicated stroke survivors and caregivers share their personal experiences in dealing with strokes, successfully demonstrating the steps they took to rebuild their lives. To enroll in or become a volunteer for the Peer Visitation Program, or to start one in your area, contact the Nebraska State Stroke Association.

Resource Library

The Nebraska State Stroke Association has a large library of books and videos about stroke. All materials are available for checkout by NSF members.

Speaker’s Bureau

Strokes can be prevented. The Nebraska State Stroke Association provides educational programs that show listeners how to reduce their own risk of stroke, learn to recognize the warning signs of stroke in others and what to do when they see them. Programs also provide useful information in how to maximize the quality of life for stroke survivors and their family. Designed for any size group, the programs are free of charge. To arrange a speaker for your area, contact the Nebraska State Stroke Association.

“Strike Out Stroke” Newsletter

Published three times a year, the Nebraska State Stroke Association’s newsletter provides stories about stroke survivors, on information on prevention, recovery, and living with a stroke. If you would like to receive the newsletter, call 1-888-808-5678 and leave your name and mailing address or click here.

Stroke Support Group

African-Americans are almost twice as likely as Caucasian Americans to have a stroke. The Nebraska State Stroke Association is currently working with the Caregiver’s Support Services in the North Omaha area to reach out to African-American stroke survivors and their families.

The services that the Nebraska State Stroke Association provides are paid for by donations from community members.  To make a donation, click here.
