Emotional changes and depression are common following stroke.  (If depression persists, the doctor should be consulted.)  Many stroke survivors try to isolate themselves due to embarrassment or shame.  

It may be helpful for them to join a support group with other stroke survivors.  For a current listing of stroke support groups in your area, contact the NSF office.
